Berryhill Baja Grill
Rating:

So this is the first review of a chimi for me. Be gentle.
Berryhill Baja Grill is nestled deep within a shopping center across from Davenport Village off of 360. Its not really visible from the road, so you have to just trust that its there. Once you enter, its a surprisingly AWESOME restaurant space. there’s a spacious patios that overlooks the stunning landscape of Not-yet-urban-sprawl. Its really beautiful. They’ve got a small but inviting bar and plenty of seating. I’ll definitely be back here for a beer and a game. But on to the Chimi You order at the front- so no waiters, no tips required. Their specialty is their Tempura fried fish and shrimp, which they say is award winning. Never one to turn down fried anything, I order the Chimi- which is a tempura fried small burrito. I actually ordered 2- the seafood filled and the chicken. Total was around $11 with drink.
I proceeded to the salsa bar. There were free baskets of chips there too (ala Chuys) and I was a little bummed that they only had 1 type of salsa available. Good thing it was DElicious. I must mentio they also had a bowl of pickled carrots and jalapenos there. I didn’try them, but was tempted to.
The food was on our table within 5 minutes. Huge plates, garnished with black beans, savory mexican rice, and the chimi’s were topped with a ancho cream sauce and red cabbage.. I dove into the first chimi- not sure whether it was seafood or chicken. The tortilla crust was dense, rich and a bit sweet, the cream sauce was yummy, almost like queso. the seafood filling was fresh and NOT fishy at all, very tasty! I savored every bite. After the first chimi, i felt like I’d eaten a horse…But for the sake of taco town, I proceed.
The chicken chimi was filled with small chunks of grilled chicken breast basking in a sort of garlic cheesy cream sauce. I was VERY RICH, almost too rich. BUT also VERY TASTY. I have no idea how much fat i’d consumed but I had a feeling it wasn’t pretty. all in all, they were fantastis, though next time I’ll just get one chimi and a taco or something lighter. It was like eating 2 desserts.
For the record, Dboz had the Fish taco and a Beef Fajita Taco, which were both overflowing with fresh fillings. I’m sure he’ll chime in soon. So, I reccomend Berry Hill to anyone who likes fried things and tacos. I’ll be back.
Oh, they also cater, which is nice for gameday and shit.
