Tamale House

Rating: ★★★½☆
Tamale Houselike most other folks in austin (at least in my mind), i have spent the greater part of post 9-11 life as a struggling artist, scrounging for change under the couch to pay for my next meal..i have become aware of the corporate machine as it plots to control and exploit the masses through fast food addiction.. i was searching for another way..for a food source that embodied values such as a work day that ends at 3pm. without $3.25 taco dinners at tamale house my life would be very different today.. its very possible that you would find me hooked on biggie sour dough jack’s and jr bacon blubber burgers, wallowing in a pool of hydrogenated self pity… where am i ? what was i talking about….oh yeah.
viva el salvador! viva Tamale House!

the lowdown:
its a mexican food counter, where you can get fresh tamales, tacos, enchiladas, migas, and breakfast tacos.. my personal favorites are:
-The Crispy Taco Dinner ($3.25) 3 tacos, rice, beans, flour tortillas. a hearty meal for anyone.. 3.25 ? are you kidding me? i live off this shit..

- Migas with cheese ($4.25) incredible..with tortillas, beans and potatoes. no way you can eat the whole thing, its kind of on the soupy side becuase they slather the eggs with queso, but it is so good that way trust me..

my score
food quality: 8
price: 9.5 (the only way its a 10 is if its free)
service: 6 (its quick as hell, but the checkout lady is rarely in a good mood..)
atmosphere: 6 (get it to go or eat outside - thats your options.. theres about 4 tables)
salsa: 8 (great salsa -a fresh pico-type suce, but not chunky. medium-hot)
total: 35.5
