Nueva Onda
Rating:

This little South Austin hidden treasure is tucked-away on the little street that cuts the corner of Congress & Oltorf. Nestled back off the street, it has a ample parking and a nice covered pati. Its order at the counter-style traditional mex and tex-mex breakfast & lunch with a very warm homemade taste to everything. they make Aqua Frescas daily, and even have a MOVIE NIGHT once a month. The salsas are fresh and decent , and there’s plenty of vegetarian stuff for the crunchy ones.
It’s also one of the few austin taco joints with a proper website. you can browse the ample menu here. Prices are cheap, service is fast and friendly, decor is funky and understated. they even have a nice selection of books on shelves to peruse. if you like Maria’s TacoXpress without the crowds, try Nueva Onda.
I reccomend the Chorizo egg & cheese taco. Also the agua frescas are consistently awesome. Try the rice bowls & fideo (vermicelli) bowls if you want something different. They make fresh tamales every Sunday- including the jalapeno & pork, and even cheese flavored. Tamales seem to be their specialty and they don’t dissapoint.
Overall- this is a VERY GOOD taco joint. It deserves repeat visits to discover new menu treats. The free WiFi makes it a great study spot or Sunday morning coffee chill place. Just remember they close at 3pm every day. Stay tuned for updates to this post, when i get a chance to try the rest of the menu.

The Migas here are pretty good, especially if you add chorizo. Hmmmmmm.
