Jorge’s

I was definitely caught by surprise by these tacos.. I’m talking the traditional crispy beef taco.. the key here was the shell - homade, fresh, only slightly crispy, barely greasy. the taco meat was chunky and flavorful, the fixins were clean and fresh.. it was a perfect taco. Amayas Taco Village

Rating: ★★★½☆
Taco Town really has changed me. This website has given me the strength to boldly forge into the new world of the Mystery Taqueria. Before Taco Town, the odds were stacked against me. The occasional “lets try this place. It might be good” usually ended up with extended and frequent visits to the alter of King Commode- God of Porcelain. I was left with nothing to show for my courageous efforts, and there was no way to warn the next guy about the dangers of that particular Mystery Taqueria. Read the rest of this entry »

La Tapatia #2

The 71 East locationRating: ★★★★½
this past saturday, after a hard day of work, i cashed my paycheck and headed over to Tapatia #2, a jalisco style taqueria. its on the north side of ben white just east of I-35 (next to the Moneybox)

The stars were aligned with me on this sunny afternoon as I had a flawless dining experience..I was greeted with smiles from the friendly waitstaff, ordered some ice T in a matter of seconds.. i was presented with the obligaroty chips y salsa.. the salsa was incredibly fresh and tasty, not too hot, not too mild.. mmm.

El Pollo Feliz

El Pollo Feliz

Rating: ★★½☆☆
Eager to review a taqueria which I had not previously patronized, I went to yellowpages.com and typed in taqueria and Austin, tx. Interestingly enough I was unable to locate the establishment I originally chose, and found myself aimlessly meandering through north Austin until I stumbled upon El Pollo Feliz. The signs on the building clearly advertised something relatively foreign to the taqueria world, rotisserie chicken was proudly displayed alongside such words as tacos, tortas, and burritos. Guest Post: La Playa by Rex Banner

Rating: ★★★★☆
If you don’t already know about this place(which you probably don’t) you should. Easily my favorite spot to cram down some tacos and hit on the hot latina lovin. Especially after a night of boozin. Considering that’s where I usually find myself. The food is devine. Never ordered anyting bad, however I don’t recommend getting it togo. The reason I say this is because besides the fact you get more food if you order there, the lovely Monica is there to serve your every need. Read the rest of this entry »

El Charito

this isnt really it, but kinda the sameRating: ★★½☆☆
So me and the bro were driving around today looking for a fresh east-austin taqueria to try out.. we drove down roggae looking for a place that just turned into a fried chicken joint - DAMN! sabotage, then we drove up manor to 183.. no tacos in site..so we resigned to head over to La Palapa, a place that eboz didnt really like the last time he went.. when on the way down the feeder road of 290, a curious establishment appeared before our eyes.. it was a small brick building, painted like the Mexican flag, a sign read EL CHARRITO.. wowoahwito! cant pass this up, its like the clouds parted and taco heaven had sent down a saviour to deliver us from the evil! we pulled in and walked inside.. Los Altos

Los AltosRating: ★★★½☆
Los Altos is a top-notch taqueria.. Extrmely friendly service, quick, 2 kinds of salsa (a greenish vinegar type, and a fresh red ) the pastor is a little inconsistent, but on a good day it can be awesome.. caldo de rez is highly reccommended by Dave Brown.. i usually order the combination plate with beef fajita and pastor.. comes with rice, beans, some salad fixins, and tortillas for $4.95 .. the perfect meal.. the ingredients are always fresh, which is really what gives this place a high score..
