While taking a short cut to my far east casita, I happened to drive by a place that has caught my eye several times over the past few months. Having lived near the corner of oltorf and parker (como se dice el ghetto?) for one remarkably difficult to remember summer in college, it was surprising to me that the old mr. gattis delivery hub at the corner had transformed into something else. Something….super? The “Super Burrito” seems to capitalize on on a niche in the taco scene that has long gone ignored. Really, if you want to get a drive through taco there are very few establishments that will cater to your desires. Of course the taco c is a constant, but most of us that frequent tacotown are well beyond those days. Come to think of it, “the c” has monopolized our drive thru tacos for far too long. Viva la super revolution!
The super burrito is an establishment that focuses heavily on the take out crowd, with two seperate lanes and ordering boxes going different directions on either side of the building. Apparently the super savvy customers have already realized that it pays to enter from east side entrance as that line was consistently shorter. Walk ups are not left out though, as the patio hosts six tables in a clean area that looks like it would be a nice place to eat if you don’t mind drive through exhaust. Oh this is exciting, the super burrito offers WI-FI GRATIS! (free) for drive through and walk up customers alike. Just imagine yourself waiting in the drive through for your burrito, while surfing the net for the latest on the T.O.O.D. or screech’s dirty sanchez!
Now about those burritos. The menu is stacked with burrito options, taco plates, and I was pleased to see that this place is a meat lovers heaven with such options for your cow as: carne asada, lengua (tongue and right at the top of the menu!, not hidden in shame at the bottom), “beef”, carne guisada, and barbacoa. Additionally, the was the ever present chicken, fish, adobada and carnitas (first cousins of pastor). After surveying the menu breifly, I decied on (what else)…. the super burrito. The super burrito has it all, and comes standard with carne asada, cheese, pico, guac, rice and beans. Competitively priced at 5.50, my burrito was more than enough food for lunch time. While it wasn’t mindblowing by any means, the sum of the parts of my burrito was quite pleasing. The rice and refritos were standard, but piping hot. The guac and pico were actually very good, and there was a generous helping of yellow cheese to round out the experience. Now about the salsa, to me it was pure mystery. It came in the little plastic containers, 2 for the burrito. It had the gel like consistency of the green salsa that normally comes with the best breakfast tacos. But it was orange. I mean it was bright orange. I’ve seen orangish tomatoes before, but it would take a lot for a functioning restaurant to make all their salsa orange. Now I know that habaneros are orange, but wouldn’t a salsa made of habanero paste be unreasonably hot? Would it really need the little red pepper flakes I found floating around. The salsa was very low on flavor, but with a nice afterburn. Maybe it was habanero, I need backup on this one. I called super burrito, and was directed to try to ask the morning chef who makes the salsa. So confused. I feel like this guy.

I LOVE super burrito. They make burritos that are great like west coast burritos that no one else in town seems to have. They make everything just right. I would recommend these burritos to everyone and their grandmother.
They also go above and beyond to satisfy the customer.
