Maria’s Taco Xpress

Everybody has their own list of creature comforts- small and sometimes guilty pleasures that provide an escape from the stresses of modern times and keep us generally miserable humans from committing hara-kiri. Maria’s has always been a creature comfort for me and many other 78704sters. My Sunday afternoons have seen many a chorizo/egg/cheese taco placed in my hung-over belly. In fact, in the humble opinion of Cabeza De Taco, Maria’s makes the best chorizo in TacoTown, bar none. print it. Read the rest of this entry »

Wahoo’s Fish Taco

Taco faithful, I have called this meeting to impart my divine and intimate knowledge of one my favorite taco places, the tacogod goto (if you will). This bastion of taco and beverage goodness should always be on a short list for those taco-ites looking to find some of the freshest, tastiest tacos and stiffest, cheapest drinks in all of Austin. I have to admit that this review was a long time in the coming, and I’ll make another admission early on. I am familiar with the owners, and consider them my homies. Therefore I have diligently eaten at Wahoo’s many, many times in order to ensure that I could give a fair and impartial review as to quality of the taco experience. There is one thing alone that sets apart good restaurants from badass, goto, favorites. CONSISTENCY. And this is the mantra at Wahoo’s.

Tacodeli North

another day, another taco…made the short trek up slopac to where it hits Burnet.. the newest Tacodeli resides there in a fresh new urban-sprawl strip center.. we walked in to find a decent size late lunch crowd..the cute girl at the counter was nice enough… guiding us through the menu of gringo-inspired tacos, tortas, and burritos..  I ordered a blue plate (2 tacos, rice and beans) with 1 cowboy taco and 1 pork mole taco.. we got a basket of chips and salsa to start things off.. the red sauce with the chips was phenomonal.. i mean it.. it was a great red sauce.. i think may have been some chipotle in it.. highly reccommended.. Habanero Mexican Cafe

the usual question was asked…”Where today yo? “…..”Habaneros was killer last time, let’s go there.” A quick jaunt down south to Oltorf and South 1st.. Upon arrival, the scent of tex-mex bliss was upon these eager taco eatin’ heroes. Habaneros, curiously named for a pepper that isnt found on the menu.. a forgiveable offense, since the last time we had eaten there, we had a top-notch taco experience.. the pastor was savory, the gorditas were melting in mouths, now wer’re back for the followup… Read the rest of this entry »

La Parrilla

So we made it a point this week to go exploring the north side of the ATX… in search of hidden gems.. hoping to strike mexi-gold. It was a trying experience for us..we hit Lamar at 2222 and headed north.. past Los Jefes, our last bad north lamar experience, north past 183.. and then we saw Mr. Pollo.. looked tempting so we parked it and started walking in.. only to be stopped in our tracks by 2 dudes walking out, claiming that they’d been burned! we had to take their word for it.. they seemed like dependable taco loving jerks (pictured at right), so we got back in the car and continued north..
