Habanero Mexican Cafe

the usual question was asked…”Where today yo? “…..”Habaneros was killer last time, let’s go there.” A quick jaunt down south to Oltorf and South 1st.. Upon arrival, the scent of tex-mex bliss was upon these eager taco eatin’ heroes. Habaneros, curiously named for a pepper that isnt found on the menu.. a forgiveable offense, since the last time we had eaten there, we had a top-notch taco experience.. the pastor was savory, the gorditas were melting in mouths, now wer’re back for the followup…
The painted menu on the wall says it all…this place was meant to endure time….
Beef Fajita Taco Plate… giant slabs of grilled beef on my plate.. this was a generous portion for a lunch plate.. i dug in.. augmented with some queso.. it was juicy and hearty.. not the most tender of beef, but still admirable..and the size definitely made up for it. I should mention the salsa, which was refilled for us a couple of times.. always a good sign.
Chicken Fajita lunch special/ only $5.25 on Mondays comes with a generous portion of spiced chicken breast pieces, pico, rice and charros beans. i have to say the charro beans are SO tasty. You can tell they’ve been cookin for a couple days with bacon and all the good stuff that makes em shine. The flour tortillas were pretty good too, freshly grilled.
straight picadillo taco plate with queso that was on POINT. the name was Wikki Nikki or some kinda charming moniker, someone should ask what the story behind this menu item’s name is. enchilada eating minds wanna know.
we even got to rap a bit with the owner - Arturo, he was a nice guy.. it was refreshing to see a restaurant that exuded a family-like neighborhood atmosphere.. the employees obviously put a lot of care into the food and it showed.
Storefront view coming down Oltorf, just before hittin 04’s south first..sharp eyes = tasty rewards. Tell them Taco Town sent you!!

I am the “Nikki Wikki” My Mom and Dad are the owners of Habanero and My mom just decided on a menu item that I love which is the Nikki Wikki. My brother the “Zach Attack” is also a good one. I read your article and just decided to comment on the question that you were asking, not much history behind it, but it is fun to talk about! Thanks for the good comments!
