Fonda San Miguel part 1
Cabeza was leaving town for a while so we decided to treat ourselves to what has been touted as the nicest mexican restaurant in Austin, Fonda San Miguel…. we made reservations an everything, “party of 5 hummmkhay!” (in my rich prick voice). We even arrived early so that we wouldnt arrive late and lose our table (the hostess had warned me over the phone that this could happen).. it was a good move, cuz we got to check out the digs, have a seat at the bar and order one of the best mojitos I have ever laid my lips upon.. for 8 or 9 bucks i guess it oughta be..it was with this that i turned to the grumpy little miser taunting me from my shoulder and gave hime a swift flick in the nuts.. I had eaten enough $3.25 crispy taco dinners at tamale house to earn myself this one, I was determined to do this meal right..drinks, appetizers, dessert, the whole nine.. we settled into a nice corner table and began to inspect the menu, mostly interior-mexican fare..The chips and salsa were outstanding.. especially the tangy verde sauce..top notch.. for appetizers, we ordered the pepper and cheese tamales and the lamb chops (boracco?).. the tamales won.. very fresh, very soft, very moist…ina word..delectable.
next, it was the pastor tacos, which curiously, are the only tacos on the menu.. thats crazy.. but when they came and I let the first bite enter my mouth and make the aquaintance of my taste buds, my life was changed forever.. seriously.. incredible.. unbelievable.. immaculate! this is the pastor you dream of.. just the right amount of pineapple aroma, the meat was cut into small pieces, smaller than you’re used to, but the taste was utter perfection. I cant believe I have lived my life for this long without experiencing these tacos.. chappy don’t blow no smoke! try these tacos..
I hadnt event gotten my entree yet and the deal was sealed.. i was happy.
thats all for part 1, stay tuned for the review of our entrees and the tale of the tape as we give FSG its ratings..
