Dart Bowl is Taco Town’s official bowlin ally and mid-week waterin hole. We go there with friends a couple times a month to play Bowling Poker and swig a few yellow beers…maybe pound a shot or two if we’re feelin salty. But the real reason to go to Dart Bowl is the Enchiladas with Egg ($6.95). They are incredible. A truely sublime collision of white-trash recreation with back-ally Tex-Mex culinary sensibilities…its culture, man!
Start with prison-style metal skillet/plate, add 3 hand-rolled cheese enchiladas (the good cheese- not cheddar- but the gooey yellow processed magic), fill the skillet to the brim with hot chile con carne sauce (swimming with big morsels of ground beef) , then smother in more cheese, then top it off with 2 fried eggs (over easy). throw in a big piece of buttery Texas Toast for the moppin’ duty and you’ve got HEAVEN. Wash it down with a cold Miller High Life- maybe the ultimate beer/food compliment.
You can only indulge is this kind of artery-crusting fare so often, but I honestly wouldn’t mind having a heart attack with a gut full of Dart Bowl enchiladas…Maudie’s has the straight plate, which is essentially the same dish, but it can’t even compete with Dart Bowl. They’re probably the best cheese enchiladas I’ve ever had. I give it a 9.5 out of 10.

I usually try to take care of my food needs before I hit a festival…if the lines and high prices arent enough, the food quality can be likened to a mall food court (think: $10 stir fry or $8 fajita wraps)..but all my preconceptions changed when I tried the chicken cone from Hudson’s on the Bend at ACL Fest….
Hot and Crunchy fried chicken, wrapped in a tortilla, with a base of jalepeno cole slaw.. and drizzled with a chipotle cream sauce of some sort..all nestled in a paper cone that makes it easy to eat and walk to the next stage… its the best festival food ever.. trust me.. and at only $6, I usually forget all about the music, plant my ass on a picnic table and eat chicken cones till the money runs out.

this is the first in a series of reports from our resident taco blob, Chicago Fats.. The blob will be your man behind enemy lines, going boldy where no self-respecting taco lover should ever go.. the fast food joints..wish him luck and prepare to be disgusted and ashamed for him and his sidekick dog Taco Mutt.

Starring: TT Blob & Taco Mutt
Bonus: It’s 59 cent Taco Tuesdays! Taco Mutt™ is in LUCK!
Where the fuck do we start? Walked up to the local grocery store, I just maxed out the American Express on Heineken and the HEB bacteria infested rotisserie chickens just didnt seem appealing to me tonight, so we headed on over to the local TB. Me and the Taco Mutt™. Taco Tuesday is her favorite day.
I walk up to the cashier knowing that I want the NEW! NEW! NEW! Cheesy Beefy Melt! Turns out the cashier can’t talk, in her whispering miserable voice she informed me she was trying to get management to let her go home sick, she thinks she has strep throat. I also have a miserable sore throat too, I hear it was going around, I actually missed most of work today because I couldn’t talk this morning. Nice to know that cashier lady is rubbing it all over your change! Turns out, management wouldn’t let her leave because they use the slime in the back of her throat in the special sauce for the Cheesy Beefy Melt. Read the rest of this entry »

The Austinist has posted a review of their favorite ATX vegitarian breakfast tacos.. with the infamous Dirty Sanchez from Torchy’s landing at the top of the pile..heres an interesting comment from 1 reader:
Speaking of, not to be all nit-picky, but vegetarians can’t eat egg. Egg is meat. Egg is pre-animal, not animal lactate. Egg is meat for the same reason aborted fetuses aren’t breast milk and semen isn’t yogurt. Sorry to be all gross, but eggs are gross.
well put. but let me add, soyrizo is excrement.
