Wesley Willis’ Joy Rides

We got to see the new documentary about Wesley Willis last night at the Alamo Drafthouse downtown.. It was very well done, hilarious, informative, and touching as it managed to shed much light on this schizophrenic, headbutting teddy bear of a genius…

From the documentary makers:

Despite impossible odds, Chicago native, Wesley Willis became an underground rock icon, revered artist and hero to many before his untimely death in 2003. Through his force of personality and his artistic talents, Wesley’s music and art attracted people from all walks of life. This film follows the prolific artist on his journey from obscurity to fame.

there was plenty of tacotown activity involved in the evening as well.. we ordered the Puerco Guisado, which may be one of the tastiest items on the Alamo menu! Served in an iron mini-pot and topped with avacodo slices, the stewed pork was savory and delicious..

Here is a scene in the movie where Wesley tries to get get a sponsorship deal with Taco John’s.. funny, but it also shows how easily he was written off by people as a loon..

had the Puerco guisada again on Sunday while watching Stepbrothers…the movie was funny, but the bucket of rich chunky goodness was NO JOKE…especially liked the crunchy tortilla strips mingling on top – such a great dish….
