TacoBlob: Front Line reporter

It’s Wednesday. I’m pissed as usual, thinking about George Carlin today, he always points out “instead of T.G.I.F.” that we should say “H.S.I.O.W” – Holy Shit It’s Only Wednesday. It has been my mantra all day, it really feels like a Wednesday. After a miserable day at work, I knew it might be time to write a review for Taco Town, I write best when pissed, so all I needed to do now is get drunk and we’d have a review. After downing some old High Life that has aged (I found in our carport earlier in the week) I made my way towards ZuZu. It’s actually one of the closest taco joints to my house.

My last blog was on Taco Bell, so in keeping with the tradition of chains and fast food, I wanted to try this place out. Turns out it has pretty high regards in my circle of friends, even the TT staff has given this place some props. Since my last blog was on the dreaded Taco Bell, I figured I might be able to get away with getting some food to go once more. Read the rest of this entry »

ZuZu Flan

If you like flan, check some out next time you’re at ZuZu. In addition to their big menu and extensive salsa bar, these guys know how to kick out tha custard… the flan was of a dense consistency, bathed in a rather thin pool of syrupy caramel.. my favorite part was the bottom, which had a slightly crunchy outer crust, the kinda wet crunch that only caramelized sugar can yield. MMMMMM!

This is the same flan that took home ‘Best in Austin’ honors from the chronicle a few years back.. Look for ZuZu on the west side if you need your mexi-fix. They are opening a new location in westlake.

Berryhill Baja Grill

Berryhill Fish TacoRating: ★★★★☆
So this is the first review of a chimi for me. Be gentle.

Berryhill Baja Grill is nestled deep within a shopping center across from Davenport Village off of 360. Its not really visible from the road, so you have to just trust that its there. Once you enter, its a surprisingly AWESOME restaurant space. there’s a spacious patios that overlooks the stunning landscape of Not-yet-urban-sprawl. Its really beautiful. They’ve got a small but inviting bar and plenty of seating. I’ll definitely be back here for a beer and a game. But on to the Chimi You order at the front- so no waiters, no tips required. Their specialty is their Tempura fried fish and shrimp, which they say is award winning. Never one to turn down fried anything, I order the Chimi- which is a tempura fried small burrito. I actually ordered 2- the seafood filled and the chicken. Total was around $11 with drink. Read the rest of this entry »
